General Product Safety Regulations
The Retro-Printer HAT has been designed to meet the safety requirements of IEC 62368-1:2023 (Information and Communication Technology Equipment).
The Retro-Printer HAT is intended for use within the Retro-Printer Case and must be connected to a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B or Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ computer, running Retro-Printer Software in order to operate; together called a “Retro-Printer Module”.
The Retro-Printer Module requires some customisation of the built in software in order to be used and is not designed to be carried when in use. As such it is intended solely for use by an instructed / skilled person. The plastic housing and low voltage design is intended to prevent ordinary persons from harm when touching any of the components.
Risk Warnings
1. Keep away from fire or heat sources.
2. Make sure the product fits properly to avoid potential hazards.
3. Do not dispose in household waste.
4. Do not use without a case as there are live electrical parts (up to 9v).
Energy Source: Class 1 Compliant
Power for the Retro-Printer HAT is upplied by the supplied external official Raspberry Pi power supply and connection to the Raspberry Pi. The Retro-Printer HAT (and module) is designed to use 3.3v – 5v DC maximum, with low thermal energy and as such is subject to Class 1 energy sources only and protected by means of the supplied case.
In the event of the case being removed and contact being made by a person with any part of the Retro-Printer device, the design of the connection to the Retro-Printer HAT prevents access to components on the Raspberry Pi module which may become warm with usage and minor voltages on the Retro-Printer HAT are unlikely to cause harm.
There are no mechanical parts.
Connection / Disconnection: Compliant
The Retro-Printer HAT has various standard connection points. When connecting / disconnecting any cables, or other items it is imperative that the unit is switched off at the mains.
The connections are:
- IEEE 1284 Centronics Port – designed to use a cable to the original device thus providing isolation of signals from the original device. Has two spring clips to hold the cable securely in place.
- GPIO pin header – connection to the Raspberry Pi range of computers. This is protected from misalignment by the use of 2 screws to connect the Retro-Printer HAT to the Raspberry Pi, with maximum voltage of 5v DC.
- 3 x DIP switches. These are designed to left in situ unless instructed to be removed and are only accessible by removing the outer case of the device. The maximum voltage is 5v DC.
Disposal / Recyling Instructions
In common with all Electronic and Electrical products, the Retro-Printer module should not be disposed of in household waste. Alternative arrangements may apply in other jurisdictions.
An alternative is to return the Retro-Printer module to the manufacturer, so that we can repair and re-use the unit.
EMC Compliance Statements
European Union (EU) Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive Compliance Statement
This product conforms with the protection requirements of the EU Council Directive 2004/108/EC on the approximation of the Member States relating to electromagnetic compatibility.
This product has been tested and found to comply with the limits for Class B Information Technology Equipment according to the European Standard EN 55022.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Emissions Compliance Statement
This product has been tested and complies with the limits for a Class B digital service pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the product is operated in a commercial environment.
This product complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
1) This product many not cause harmful interference, and
2) This product must accept any interference received, including interference that my cause undesired operation.
Industry Canada Emissions Compliance Statement
This digital apparatus complies with Canadian ICES-003 Class B requirements.
Australia and New Zealand Emissions Compliance Statement
This is a Class B product.
RoHS Compliance Statements
EU Directives 2011/65/EU and 2015/863 restrict the use of the 10 substances below in the manufacture of specified types of electrical equipment. Whilst this restriction does not legally apply to components, it is recognised that component “compliance” is relevant to many customers.
RoHS Compliance:
- The product does not contain any of the restricted substances in concentrations and applications banned by the Directive,
- and for components, the product is capable of being worked on at the higher temperatures required by lead–free soldering.
